Training and Capability Development

Build practical improvement capability that teams can apply at work.

Training and coaching that develops practical skills in Root Cause Analysis, Lean tools and Project Risk Management, supported by workplace application.

Capability Is Built Where the Work Happens

Capability isn’t created in a classroom – it’s built where the work actually happens. On the floor, in real time, surrounded by the noise, pace, and pressure of operations, people develop the practical judgement and behavioural muscle that theory alone can’t deliver. Formal training provides the concepts, language, and frameworks, but capability only becomes real when teams apply those ideas directly to the problems they face every day. Capability grows through simple, repeatable actions: when someone picks up a marker, adds a sticky note, challenges a long held assumption, or reframes a stubborn issue from a new angle. It strengthens when teams work together to understand the system rather than defaulting to blame. It accelerates when evidence replaces opinion, when patterns become visible, and when people learn to separate symptoms from causes. Over time, these behaviours create a culture where structured thinking becomes instinctive.

Learn Problem Solving by Solving Real Problems

Damian doesn’t just teach problem solving, he builds it. His approach is practical, tailored, and grounded in operational reality.

Instead of committing to a full day of theoretical training, teams engage in a one day RCA workshop built around a real problem of their choosing. Critical knowledge is woven into the session, but the learning comes from doing the work, not listening to slides.

This format is most effective when data collection and subject tailoring occur beforehand, followed by short action‑review coaching sessions at the two‑week and six‑week marks to reinforce capability and ensure solutions stick.

Practical Tools for Building Capability

Capability can also be developed through simple, high‑impact exercises such as the 8 Wastes of Lean (DOWNTIME).

The resource pack is available via the Resources page and can be used with any crew, either as a one‑off assessment to identify waste and build an improvement plan, or ideally as eight short toolbox sessions, one letter at a time, to build structured thinking week by week.

Examples are provided for Goods, Services, and Corporate environments, and Damian can further tailor the material to suit your specific value stream.

For Damian, capability isn’t a course. It’s a culture built by doing the work, together.
