Helping Capital Projects Achieve Certainty Through Disciplined Risk Governance

PMBOK requires a structured, proactive, and continuously updated risk assessment process for capital projects, which if not managed properly can have a range of financial, non-financial and schedule impacts.

The requirement for a risk register is built into the engineer’s tertiary education, the company’s project management framework and the justification conversations to unlock funding for the initiative.

Quite simply, it is an effort prioritisation tool to promote successful outcomes, to be maintained throughout the project. However, quality issues creep in …  which side do your Leads produce?

Damian has spent many years wearing multiple work hats; tradesperson, trainer, small business owner,  business improvement coach and risk advisor.  He has developed and delivered introductory HSE training material through to coaching mine technical personnel on project risk facilitation.

He has facilitated for seven distinctly different ore bodies and coached Project Leaders across ~ 200 construction projects, of varying disciplines.

The vast majority of the Project Risk Reviews were conducted remotely, and with great success.  Working with the Project Lead and his/her top few team members, we would pull together a risk register based on current scope and an evolving design maturity.  Once complete, we would run the final draft past a wider group of experts and then lock it into a three monthly maintenance regime.  Each review produces feedback on strengths & opportunities to improve, ensuring the higher risk elements have prioritisation and mitigation strategies.  As always, Opportunities against baseline estimate & schedule are sought and where possible, capital efficiency is tracked and reported.

If your Programs and Projects could utilise some solid Risk Facilitation & Coordination, but you cannot justify the FTE, then contact Growth Improvements for options.
